Depending on your property’s dimensions, you can choose which spot to put the charger in. It’ll need to be easily accessed by the car and able to be hooked up to your electrical circuit. Make sure you consider how you park your car. If you’re not able to reverse into the space where the charger is, will the cable still reach?
Ensure You’re Connected To Wi-Fi
Most home EV charger installations require an internet connection to work to their full potential. While you can carry out basic charging functions without, you won’t have access to any smart features. If you want to track the charging on your phone, make sure your wi-fi connection is set up and there’s good signal where the charger will be. If the signal doesn’t extend far enough, you may want to set up a wi-fi extender prior to your installation.
Decide Which Charger You’d Like
There are a few different types of EV charger on the market today. Depending on your power supply, you may be able to get a fast charger. However, you can only ever charge at the maximum speed available on your vehicle, or from your power supply, so keep this in mind. There’s little use in fitting a super-fast charger if you don’t have the electrical power to benefit. A standard 7kW charger is more than sufficient for the majority of EV drivers, so don’t worry if you can’t get anything faster.
